I called tonight to finally cancel my XM account after being a member since July of 2004. As a new Slacker, I felt that Slacker had all of my musical interests well-covered and I'd just be left to have to figure out how to replace the talk radio that I really do like (and would miss) about XM.
So I call up telling them that I don't like the recent programming changes to the music stations due to the merger and that I cannot get my XM talk radio stations if I went with Sirius' a la carte option. They then offered me a $9.99 a month plan ($120/year) which I still declined. Then they come up with the $77 for a year option to keep me in the fold. After several minutes of 'ummmms' and 'uhhhhhs', I caved -- damnit!!
I figure that even though the music channels aren't as good (which is a nice way of saying they now suck), I still get to keep my talk radio along with everything else for less than $7 a month. I feel dirty for having kept it, but I didn't expect them to throw me a soft-ball of a deal like that. Oh well... another year with that crummy outfit.

I'm still happy to have my Slacker though. I don't have XM in the car and now use Slacker all the time while driving. Plus, I'd much rather listen to my custom stations than anything XM has to offer musically.
Anyhow, just passing my experience along in case another Slacker user wants to try and keep their XM but at a lower rate by telling them how their service blows since the merger.

No promises, though. I was sincere about quitting and maybe that's what got me the deal.
