Why do some songs just stop or skip ahead?

Postby ktorster on Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:15 pm

It used to happen on my Curve and it's still happening on my new Tour.

Some songs either just stop mid-play, and when I restart, it skips to the next song OR it just skips ahead mid-song all by itself.

Any ideas?

I have all my notifications turned off (except for my phone ring).

Typically this means that your Network was unable to download enough of the song in order to play it. It will try to get the data, and after a bit will give up and just skips to the next song.

I should have added that these are songs that I have cached on my SD card on my Blackberry, not played over the air.

I've encountered this same issue as well on my Blackberry Curve 8330 while streaming over the Verizon network.

I have a bold 9000 and I only listen to cached stations and slacker just stops mid song. sometimes it starts back up most of the time it does not. If I hit the spacebar and wake my phone up it will sometimes start playing the song. Other times it skips to the next song.

I have deleted all my cached stations and setup new stations and it still does this.
I understand if I was streaming music but this is music from my SD card. what gives?

Same here, although I generally don't have too much of an issue with Slacker skipping to the next track. I've noticed Slacker "stopping" or pausing a song and then as soon as I press a button to wake the phone up, the song continues playing. I've noticed this on both cached stations and streaming.

Same here. Also using a Bold 9000 on AT&T. Experiencing the exact same symptoms. If songs stop playing, I can hit any button to wake it up and the music resumes. This occurs playing songs OTA and/or cached.
Using Slacker on BlackBerry Storm and Bold. I love music games and Slacker...

It's very likely then that the speed of the SD Card may not be able to keep up with everything that is going on. If you have alot of data on it, or something else is operating on your phone that is taking up cycles.

We have been experimenting with different configurations and applications to see if we can reproduce the issue. The only time we have so far has been with very slow read SD Cards.

This is the main reason I have not paid for a subscription. It doesn't work correctly all the time. I have the same issues on the BB Storm
It sometimes stops and then I have to skip to the next song just to get it to play then it uses my skips on the free version and no way to go back to hear the song that should have played.

What is an appropiate class/speed (class 2, 4, 6, etc) rated card that you would suggest that would be minimally able to keep up with Slacker?

I have this happen ALL THE TIME on my cached stations (on a Alltel/Verizon Curve 8330). I cancelled my XM to go totally Slacker, and I'm getting frustrated with my decision.

And I'm not sure if it can be blamed on lower class cards. Even a "low grade" class 2 microSD card has 2 MB/s throughput...MUCH more than is needed to stream songs without lockups. I have it occur in the 2.0 software, along with the beta 3.0 software. I'll go purchase a faster card to see if it really helps, but I'm not very hopeful...and may be reinstalling my XM if I can't get this resolved.

I must be really gullible. It's stopped again..this time with a brand new, class 4 microSD card. In fact, the phone actually just rebooted, too. This is NOT a card speed issue! It is a bug of the player!!

This was on Slacker 3.0.whatever. "Downgrading" to 2.0.91 to see if it has issues, too. If not, this $20 card is going back, and so am I...to XM.

Just a guess, but can any of this be due to the stability of one's wifi or Internet network? I had problems with repeats on my G1 and G2, and now have this stopped play issue on my Blackberry. Perhaps the song downloads or log files are being corrupted during the refreshing process. Just throwing this out there.

For Blackberry, I mean just the stability of one's Internet network or connection. I understand that one cannot refresh a Blackberry by wifi yet (unless an update has been issued-- I haven't checked lately). Thanks.

I'm refreshing via USB on a 10mb/s cable line. I doubt it's a lack of quality internet connection.
