Talk radio stations????

It would be great if you could add talk-radio stations such as Sports, Entertainment, News and my Favorite that I record almost every night on my Xm myfi "Coast to Coast AM." It is a late-night program that is broadcast around the world. This is the only thing preventing me from canceling XM. Keep up the good work. :-D :-D

I'm not sure that would be possible with the way Slacker works, unless shows and events are always recorded and distributed as podcasts. I wouldn't mind being able to access through Slacker some of the podcasts already created by news and sports networks. Alas, live sporting events may never be.

But, when I really think about it, there's also something to like about not having non-music options (outside comedy, for now). On Sirius, I became a real news junkie and listened to nothing but that. Imagine all the other stuff I never explored. Slacker forces me to get into music.

I agree. The Slacker concept is to focus on music not other genres like talk shows, sports, etc. Plus some of these genres are tied up with satellite radio with their big contracts. I would rather have Slacker focus on signing contracts with record labels (small and big) in order to get more music online and available for us to listen to and enjoy.

Personally, I really enjoy a lot of the programs on NPR (particularly Car Talk. It cracks me up every time.) and while I'd love to have something like that available on Slacker where the content isn't time based (the PodCast Channel?), I don't see that happening anytime soon as the license fees are really high (you want us to start doing fundraising drives every quarter? ) and some of the content is time-based, and wouldn't end up being very....well, timely. Plus generating a whole playlist and cycling old shows in.....

... but still, great idea! :rules:

I really appreciate shows that provide new content daily. A little time shift is all I need to catch such shows, which technology (like Slacker) could obviously handle. Sure it'd cost more, so it would probably belong to a premium service. Meanwhile, I guess I'll have to search elsewhere.

Btw... if "enlightening" newsy/educational content were ever added to the current, "entertaining" repetitive/vegetative content, I don't think they'd want to call themselves "Slacker" any more.

I'd be willing to pay for current, quality content. But I guess if there aren't enough people like me, there's no market like that for Slacker to expand into.

I don't care if my quality news analysis is a day or two late... it's still 10 times better than the typical daily news. For example, weekly magazines and podcasts add quality enlightenment, and save me from having to listen to the same old recycled stuff.

(Am I using the word "quality" too much here?)

As far as focusing on music, thumbs down as far as I'm concerned. On my long commutes I like music and stories. I'd be for audio CD's on Slacker.

Though I understand news talk would be difficult for the slacker way of doing things, stories and radio dramas would be great. I loved XM classics and Sonic Theater.

I think that if we were able to sbscribe to podcasts like we can through I-Tunes then this would replace my Satellite Radio. Many of the Podcasts are free and if we want to pay to get others than we can do that as well.

Your toaster doesn't have talk radio or podcasts either. Much like the Slacker devices, it also wasn't designed for them. But don't let that keep you from complaining on the KitchenAid forums about it.

Then again I think it would bea tad easier to add those genres to Slacker than it would be toa toaster.

i support this. it doesnt have to be live. however, there are plenty of places online that cache a radio show and constantly stream the most recent full episode of the show.
