Songs shortened?

Postby frizgolf on Tue Jan 20, 2009 4:36 pm

I was listening to the Indie channel the other night, and I heard two tunes which were somewhat abbreviated.
1.) Death Cab For Cutie- I Will Possess Your Heart: The song began with a short piano intro, then right into Ben Gibbard's singing. The version I've heard many times has a long instrumental intro, of which much talk was made in Indie blogs and message boards, specifically about the signature bass riff. The piano noodles along with the bass for a few minutes before Ben starts singing. The version I heard sounded like an old AM radio-friendly clip.
2.) Built To Spill- Going Against Your Mind: the end of the song was clipped. It's almost 9 minutes long with some extended jamming and instrumental toward the end. The version I heard here was probably around 3+ minutes.

Slacker, say it ain't so! Are you radio-editing tunes?

There are different versions of songs out there, some edited for broadcast. I may be wrong, but I think there are different licensing costs for the different versions.

I'm sure you're right. Alot of songs have two versions, one meant for broadcast one not.
