Slacker Software Player Update 4/30/09

Postby RomeE on Thu Apr 30, 2009 9:24 am

Good Morning everyone.

As of late last night, we have released a new version of the Slacker Software Player (sort of). Let me explain...

First off, this never version was brought back due to popular requests for a downloadable client that could be run on a PC without needing to use a Browser, and also provided the "Mini Mode" to conserve desktop space. This new version of the Software Player is a "Radio Plus" or "Premium Radio" Feature. If you are a basic user, you can use it for 10 songs a day, and then it will stop and ask you to upgrade. If you do not wish to upgrade, you can continue to listen via our website at http://www.slacker.com.

The new version of the Software Player is ONLY for radio playback via the computer. We have removed all "jukebox" type functions from this release. This means that you will still want to use Windows Media Player (or any other of your favorite Media players) with your personally owned MP3/WMA/etc files.

You can download the new Softer Player from our support.slacker.com site, or from the following URL directly: http://www.slacker.com/dwls/miniplayer/setup.exe

When you download and install the Software Player, it will show up under your Programs Folders in a folder called "Slacker Software Player". Inside of there is "Slacker Software Player" and if you click on that it will run the application.

The look and feel of the application is just like the Web Site. In fact, it's really just the website inside of a client. So, you have to be connected to the Internet to access the Radio Stations and for the Slacker Software Player to work properly.

The biggest feature of the Software Player is the Mini Mode option. To enter into this mode, click on the down arrow on the Upper Right side of the Software Player, and it will enter into a mode that shows the Album Art for the currently playing song. If you mouse over the program, you will get control buttons, and if you remove the mouse the buttons will fade away and you will see the artwork again.

This was designed as a light version of the Software Player, so this version does NOT have anything included for the Portable Players. If you need to refresh the Portable Players, please make sure you have downloaded and installed the Slacker USB Station Refresher program.

At this time the application is only supported on Windows Based PC's running Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Best regards,
