When I try to refresh Slacker, it says "Signing in..." and about 10 seconds later it says "An error has occurred during the refresh operation. Check the network settings and try again." I don't get what's wrong with my network setting. My Wi-fi connection is fine. I can browse the web, do YouTube, all of that on the Walkman.

I tried it a few times and ONCE it said it was selecting the songs, and when the status bar got about 10% of the way through, I got that same error message again. I've linked my ID and everything?

I'd really like to know what's going on. I'd assume that if I can connect my walkman to the internet with no problem, yet it times out when signing into Slacker, that the problem is on Slacker's end. But I'd be interested in paying for one of the services, I just need the BASIC version to work properly first before I pay for it.

I am having the exact same trouble with my sony x. I have written tech support, but no response yet. I agree, I'm not paying for something that might not work. Hopefully this is just a new product glitch that slacker or sony will figure out soon. But this kinda kills the excitement that came with my new mp3 player.

It DEFINITELY kills that new excitement, and I also don't like that there are zero responses from anyone at Slacker here. I'm hoping that support will come soon enough since the Walkman X IS a new product. What I have found since my last post is that I can connect at other hotspots (coffee shops, etc.), but the only other place I cannot connect is at my friend's house. Strangely enough, he has the exact same router I have, a 2Wire. I'm wondering if Slacker on the WMX is having problems with 2Wire routers. What router do you use?

Slacker did reply to me, basically repeating back to me what I'd said to them (It sounds like you're having trouble connecting), and then telling me to contact Sony. If I can connect the internet and YouTube, and NOT Slacker, why would Sony be the problem? It sounds like they're shoving the responsibility off elsewhere.

I can't understand why the Slacker portable could update via USB, yet the WMX can't. I really hope Sony or Slacker provide some sort of update to alleviate this frustration, because I have a feeling there are more people out there with this same issue.

It sounds like you hit the nail on the head with the router issue, I too have a 2Wire. When I went to a friend's house, it had no trouble connecting.

BTW, Slacker support also sent me back to Sony for troubeshooting my problem. I guess I can find some relief in that I can connect to Slacker, but does this leave me with either getting a new router or going somewhere else to connect to Slacker? I wonder if Sony will issue firmware updates--here's hoping they see this and include a patch for connectivity with the 2Wire routers.

Since the X-series has been out just alittle over a month now, I'm sure we'll see lots more of this to come, too bad we're the guinea pigs.

I've heard Sony doesn't issue firmware updates for mp3 players unless it's a bug fix, but then again, I paid $300 for a PS3 and that gets firmware updates left and right.

If push comes to shove, I can deal with updating Slacker at the library or coffee shop, I just shouldn't have to. If you do happen to try a different router, please let me know if it works. I will ask my dad if he has an extra router laying around that I might be able to try.

Hello fellow Walkman users, I was also having this problem until I correctly set the time on the Walkman to match that of my computer's.

It has been a month and a half since the first post on this thread and this issue still exists! No help from Slacker or Sony! The Slacker function still has VERY POORLY EXECUTED refresh capabilities. The player will not let you refresh via USB connection. IT REQUIRES Wi-Fi. You will drain half of your battery life with every refresh. And 9 out of 10 refresh attempts WILL FAIL! It will take you three hours of effort to refresh all three of your stations (alternating charging and refresh attempts). DO NOT BUY THE X for its ability to play slacker radio! Sony and slacker are killing a great idea here. Seriously, search "walkman x" and "slacker refresh" and see for yourself how many people are having problems with this. Also note the silence on the part of Sony and Slacker in addressing this issue! Will one of you two companies be responsible and address this issue so I can retract this post!?!

Sounds like a router issue.....especially since it works ok at a friends houes. If I recollect correctly, doenload the pdf file for the G2 - it will tell you that the router setting cannot be 198.68.0.1 or something like that. Unfort many routers use that setting as the default. Ask your friend to do an ipconfig and check the router ip address. Then check yours. You may need to resetthe router configs to get it to connect to slacker properly in wifi mode.

LINKSYS defaults are set up correctly out of the box...DLINK is NOT. So - you may want to buythe router your frind has.

Router issue......you cannot use a wireless router setting of 192.168.0.1 to connect to the slacker application.

That is a default setting for many routers. You may need to reconfig your router to use a diff default 192.168.1.1 or something.

Sorry for the wrong numbers in previous post.....this is probably why you CAN connect to youtube etc and not Slacker.

Linksys uses a diff default so it works...DLINK will not.

It's only a router/IP conflict issue when syncing via USB, which it sounds like the Walkman X can't do in the first place. When any Slacker device connects via WiFi, it's connecting to your existing network, and getting an IP address directly from your router (When connecting via USB, the Slacker portable creates a mini-network between the device and your computer which uses a fixed IP address range that is common to many other routers, thus creating a conflict).

Any problems with syncing via WiFi are usually due to the wireless connection itself, the internet service, or connection to Slacker's servers.

However, I would recommend using Slacker's live support chat for additional support/assistance on this issue.

Above post - that may be true. I am reporting what happened to me (admittedly with the G2 not the Walkman) ....wireless router config issue is also included as a warning in the G2 setup manual. I had already put new wireless router into place to replace my DLINK four port wired router and the new router came with the appropriate default settings so the G2 worked fine as did the Walkman. The USB issue with G2 and potentially with Walkman is an ICS issue/conflict which Slacker has reported on (and plagued my G2 also)

The Walkman will update using Windows Media to synch your own tunes with the unit provided you have the most recennt windows media player...put that doesn't help with the slacker radio stations.

Anyway, hopefully, he can replicate his friend's setup and get the thing working.
