Personal Space Album art

Postby nerys on Fri Dec 12, 2008 1:31 am

OK how do I make this work?

I go to a lot of trouble to embed jpg album art into every one of my mp3's always 500x500 if its available. I have a zune and that "GUI" is what really gets me interested and also what drew me to the slacker.

Except it refuses to display album art for a SINGLE one of my songs. works on all my other players PC side PPC, Palm, Zune etc.. all display it just fine but not the slacker. ??? suggestions?

also where can I put ID3 information so I can have "Biography" data available like your stations songs do? also that second image. what embed tag do you use for that one?

Thanks!

I don't know either... I don't load any of my own music on it. All the music I want to hear is already loaded onto it!

It probably doesn't support displaying art from the mp3's.

It also isn't mass-storage compliant, which really is mind-blowing. No Xbox 360 playback, can't dock it in a bevy of places. I don't think the G2 is compliant either. Seeing as I couldn't just dock and load my G1 like anything else I had to use Windows Media Player because it's a Windows Device. But it crashes while transferring and it's a pain to not be able to just drag-and-drop to it like all of my other devices so I just load music onto my Nokia n810 instead.

A third option may be that not that many people care about album art for personal mp3's. Many of us are slackers and it takes work to marry artwork to songs. I prefer to listen to music and I have the Portable to listen to stations.

I have an extensive music collection and Zunes in the household so all my mp3 already have nice high quality art work.

the "large" art interface ie zune like interface is what originally attracted me to the Slacker

I like to have my "favorites" folder with me and I want it to display the embedded art.

some say it works some like mine do not.

what I need is ONE working mp3 so I can take it apart and see how its different from what I am doing and not getting art to display.

I have loaded a few albums onto my G1 and album art does show up. Difference is, I do not embed the art into the mp3, I have it as a separate jpg file.

The art that I have noticed come up from my library has not been the best quality as I do not know what size image the Slacker portable uses. Will take some experimenting.

what naming do you use to make the album art into jpg's that would be a royal PITA on a massive scale since I would have to go get some 60+ jpg's AGAIN and rename them but its doable.

Now that I have the new firmware I checked my mp3's again

no joy no album art. it seems ALIEN to me that they would make such an album art centered machine and completely IGNORE the album art for our own mp3's

thats just bizzarre

Well, now I do not know how or on what album showed album art in the Library. Had to do a Factory Reset over the weekend, finally got the firmware update, but now I can not get album art to show on any albums.

I tried naming the same as the album, tried naming it "cover" tried variations of each and no love, no more album art on the personal library.

Maybe Slacker Support could chime in sometime and fill us all in on what is required to show album art in the library? geekness

Again, I don't know if this will work or not, since I don't put any music of my own on my G2...

Given that Windows Media Player is a method of moving music to the Slacker portable, maybe if you are able to see the album art in Windows Media Player, then use WMP to move your music to the portable, it will move the album art with it?

Just a thought... I don't think I saw that this had been tried...

Hmmm, was not aware that we could use WMP to move personal music to the portable, or does that only work on the G2?

I will give it a try tonight. Thanks for the tip. :-D

You can use Windows Media Player OR Explorer drag-and-drop... these are the ways to move music to the portable - G1 or G2 - in lieu of the Slacker Software player that is no longer supported.

Not with the G1 - its not straight up MTP drivers at least it was not for me. I HAD to install the software as it "came with" the usb driver files to allow the G1 to connect with the PC.

I wish they would just use Mass Storage for the MP3 side as this would solve a lot of problems. I still have no idea how to get album art to work.

the device should be viewable in Windows Media Player, and is how slacker tells users to transfer their own songs to the device.

Thats correct but ONLY after install the software to get the USB drivers.

then it showed up accessable via media player etc...

I will find a machine that has never had slacker installed and see what happens when I plug in.
