My experience was a bit of a pain, but I worked it out eventually.

I actually read the instructions and deleted the old version. Fine. Installed 2.0.02, re-booted as instructed. Installed without a hitch. Opened the app, resigned into my account and found none of my cached stations. Okay, kind of expected. Went to cache a station and was told there was no room to do it. huh?.

Plugged in the BB to check the data in the slacker directory. looked okay, but decided to clean EVERYTHING out. I uninstalled v2, then cleaned the BB of ALL Slacker info. Re-installed v2, rebooted the phone, and signed in. no troubles. I started to recreate my cached stations and was told I could cache 13 stations (2G card). Hey that's great! because after using the older version for several months it wouldn't let me cache more that 3!

So, my advice is to uninstall completely- then clean out all the old stuff and start from scratch, and it should be fine.

I too have run into the song skipping issue. It doesn't happen for every song though. When it happens, it doesn't skip at the same time every time either. Finally, it seems to happen frequently while on EDGE, but rarely on Wifi (haven't tried a cached station yet.)

EDIT: It also deducts from the 6-skips-an-hour limit whenever it skips. Looks like a bug...

It could be related to the pre-caching of the start of the next song. When a song change happens, the app starts downloading a small amount of the next song, so that when the current song ends, it can immediately start playing the next song while reconnecting to stream the rest of it.

But since EDGE isn't as fast as HSPA (3G), it may not be able to make the connection fast enough before the pre-cached buffer runs out. It plays through the pre-cache buffer, no new data is there, so it assumes failed connection and skips to the next song.

Here we go again! As far as I am concerned, this new version is unusable. EVERY song starts skipping about 25 seconds into the song. Quite often it won't even let me into Slacker. It says Invalid Login and forces me to log in from a PC. This really ticks me off because Slacker is my favorite Blackberry App and I've been singing its praises and recommending it to everyone. NO LONGER! It doesn't work worth a * on my Curve 8330 with all permissions set to Allow and the firewall disabled. The previous version worked just fine and I listened to it all day long. I was planning to upgrade to the premium version but am now glad I didn't. As a computer programmer myself, I would have been ushered to the street for releasing a buggy piece of software such as this. Please give me back my previous version or tell me what must be done to fix this new version. Please!

I do have to say that all the upgrades at once is not fun.
I received a new Storm upgrade right after the Slacker upgrade. I installed Slacker and could not figure out why is still displayed the old version.

Well when I did the upgrade on my Storm from Verizon, it literally wiped most of my phone clean. Started like it was a just purchased phone. That is when I looked in the application section on my storm and saw 2 Slackers. I deleted the older version and the upgraded one now was in use.

I am still trying to get all my stations back in at the same time I am trying to load my emails, calendar, contacts etc, from back-up files. UUGG..this is not a good week for upgrades.

Rome E,

Here's the info for your programmers to investigate on this new version.

I have a Curve 8330 from US Cellular. Last night night I uninstalled Slacker, again, then used BBFileScout to remove any last traces of Slacker from my Blackberry. I reinstalled Slacker, made sure that all permissions were set to allow and the firewall disabled. Now, as before, EVERY song skips like a broken record between 23-26 seconds into the song and deducts from from my available skips. Eventually, after 6-10 songs, I get the popup that says "Account Error. To correct, go to slacker.com from a PC and sign in to your account.". Then I'm sunk and Slacker will no longer function. My guess is that it thinks I'm trying to use more than my allowed number of skips and generates the error screen, but that doesn't explain the original skipping problem.

Could you PLEASE have someone investigate and get back to us with a response other than silence? Up until now I've really enjoyed Slacker and listened to it all day while banging on the keyboard at work coding software. Now I'm dead in the water and not very happy. Additionally, the powers that be at my employer have blocked access to Slacker from our PCs so I can't reset my account even if I wanted to go to that trouble every 6-10 songs.

I've done all that I can on this end, now it's up to you and your programmers to come up with a solution. Please do so. Thanks.

I uninstalled the 1.x version. It didn't delete the slacker folder, the autoplay.inf or the Windows executable on the memory card. On my Mac, I deleted those things and left them in the trash, then disconnected the Blackberry and installed 2.0.2. It created new versions of the stuff above, so I felt free to empty the trash of the old ones. This took a while, something like 3000 files at a total of 4 GB of stuff (I had 14 stations cached before uninstalling).

I haven't cached the new one yet, but a word to the wise - delete the stuff off your memory card in between uninstalling the old version and installing the new one.

I have a Storm, and for a long time, I've had the problem where any system notification (phone call, email, etc), causes Slacker to restart the current song. I've been running various leaked OS versions on the Storm because I found certain problems with the 4.7.0.75 official Verizon release to be insufferable, and it was the better trade-off to deal with the Slacker glitch. That being the case, Slacker support - understandably - didn't want to address the issue since I wasn't running an official release.

So - now Verizon's latest official release is 4.7.0.148. I wiped my phone clean after the upgrade and installed Slacker 2.0.2 fresh. The problem of resetting the song still exists. Since I'm using an official release now, I hope this can be resolved by Slacker. Slacker is really great, but this little issue makes using it very frustrating. I had the same song restart five times in a row today because email came in just right to make it happen that way. Please, please fix this.

Also, I'm seeing the issue where the current song quits playing before it's done and it skips ahead to the next song for no apparent reason. It doesn't happen every time, and it varies where in the song it happens.

- forgot to mention that I play from cache mostly, but I see both the song reset and the early skip issues when playing from cache and streaming live.

Thanks,
Tommy

Re: New Slacker Application version 2.0.2 BUG REPORT

Postby reykjavik on Thu Jun 04, 2009 3:52 pm

Slacker v2.0.2 is skipping to the next song after being paused for more than 30 seconds on unpausing. Its occuring on both the my friends sprint curve and my attt bold.

If we pause and within 30 seconds unpause, the song continues playing normally. If we pause and unpause about 1 minute later it automatically goes to the next song.

It had always done that after some length of time but I don't know what the length of time was.

Skipping to the next song after pausing is happening to me too. When I'm driving, there are a couple dead zones. I pause as I enter them and unpause when I exit. It then jumps to the next song. Sometimes it unpauses by itself without me touching it, again going to the next song.

Slacker is no longer working for me at all now. Could we PLEASE get some assistance from Slacker tech support??? When I go into Slacker it allows me to select the station I want, then briefly displays the sign-in page, then goes to buffering, then pops up a message "Account Error. To correct, go to slacker.com from a PC and sign in to your account.". I have done that several times and matter of fact I am signed in to my account at this very moment on my PC. I'm now dead in the water as far as Slacker is concerned. What a pity. I had a perfectly functional version running prior to version 2.0.2 and now it's totally hosed. I've heard nothing from Slacker tech support which leads me to believe that they don't care since it works for some people but not for others. :-x

I signed up today to find out what the deal was and I'm glad it seems my problem isnt happening to just me. I get the same crap when listening to the new version of Slacker. It happens in my car, on my bike and when I'm just sitting at work. This is horrible, I get maybe 2 or 3 songs in clearly within an hour and have to fight this thing throughout.

Can we revert back to version 1?!? I want it back!

Re: New Slacker Application version 2.0.2

Absolutely Horrible!!! This version is causing me nothing but problems on my 8320 running v4.5.0.81 (2.7.0.78). I figured that if I upgraded from 1.1.11 things would be better. What a mistake!

This version is riddled with problems. The first and most annoying is the song skipping. Roughly 3 out of every 4 songs skip at some point within the first minute of the song. Then the ones that don't skip play all the way through, most of the time. The second problem are the errors that occur while I'm listening. There are various errors that I've seen such as "Could not get track", "Station exhausted", or some random java exceptions. And it's not like I'm going in and out of service areas when I get these errors. I did get these errors with v1.1.11, but not with the same frequency.

How can I go back to my previous version? Are the downloads out there somewhere? This version is next to unusable. I've checked the application permissions and they seem fine. Any help would be appreciated.

yeah if we can have some way to go back to the old version that would be great. there might have been a few seconds of lag between songs but at least it worked.

I found a minor irritation! I use Slacker in the car, I have plugged into my car deck. But anyway I drove to the store, got out and stopped Slacker. I minimized it but didn't close it since I was only going to be in the store for a few minutes. As I was walking in the store I put the phone in standby and Slacker started playing  . When I take it off of standby in quits playing. The previous versions all let me minimize Slacker then put it in standby without it playing in my pocket, so now I have learned that I have shut it down before I put it in standby.

Thanks for hearing me out on this!

FOR ALL THOSE WITH THE SONG SKIPPING PROBLEM!

I got in contact w/ slacker via their live chat and we went through some steps that they would like you all to do to so they can nail out this issue that some of us are having.

-After using slacker and encountering the skipping issue several times stop the station(do not shut down slacker(
-then hold down the Alt key and press the "L" button 3 times. This will bring up a box mentioning a request to send your logs to slacker
-hit yes
-once it says they have been sent go to http://support.slacker.com/app/home and click on the "Live online chat" and speak to a representative.
-tell them you're having the skipping problem and that you've just sent your logs and provide them with your BB pin (it can easily be found by going to "about" in slackers menu)

This will get them data to see what your phone is doing so tht they can get the problem worked out and hopefully have a new version for us soon. :rules:

I didn't think this new version of Slacker could get any worse, but in fact it has. Now, in addition to the skipping problem and various Java exceptions, if I listen to Slacker for more than an hour on my BB, I get an account error. It tells me that there's some problem with my account and that I have to log into Slacker from a PC in order to fix the issue. When I go to Slacker from my PC, it says that my account has experienced heavy usage and it tells me to enter some verification code to continue listening.

Never had this problem before, but apparently now I can't listen to Slacker for more than an hour without having it cut off. I'm just going to switch over to Pandora and not have to deal with this nonsense anymore.

Here is a list of problems I have on my 8330 with verizon.

1. Songs skips between 10 and 45 seconds. Not every song but quite a few to notice.
2. Phone will completely REBOOT about 2 or 3 times a day. Saturday it rebooted twice within 5 minutes.
3. 80% of the time when I pause a song it will skip to the next one and not continue. Sometimes I can pause a song overnight and restart it the next day.
4. When skipping a song the next song will buffer... forever and when I skip again 50% of the time slacker will lock up or the phone will reboot.

Other than that slacker is a great program!
