Stan Dunn's first live jazz experience was at The Blackhawk Club in San Francisco, when he and his high school buddies caught Miles Davis, with 'Trane, Red, Paul and Philly Joe. His first pro radio gig was with the late, legendary KJAZ FM in San Francisco. He also DJ'd at some of that city's best pop radio stations to develop his radio chops and pay for his uncontrollable jazz habit. In his 29 years at KJAZ he met and interviewed some of the greatest jazz artists extant: Duke, Cannonball, Yusef, Rahsaan, Herbie, Wes, Getz, Jamal and many, many others. The highlight of his long career was walking arm-in-arm onstage with Ella Fitzgerald.
Stan has written liner notes, lyrics, produced recordings and programmed major internet music services. His voice can be heard on recordings by Poncho Sanchez, George Shearing, and Marian McPartland. He also appeared regularly on Jazz FM, London, and Eurojazz Netherlands as well as inflight on Singapore Airlines and United Airlines.
While he's listening to jazz, Stan enjoys Tai Chi Chuan and other martial arts, tinkering with his '50 Indian Chief Motorcycle, RV'ing, woodcarving, and driving his neighbors nuts with his saxophone practice.
Says Stan: "I love this music and I've lived this music. Programming Classic Jazz on Slacker is like hanging out with lifelong friends"
