Kellen Yamanaka programs the Contemporary Jazz station on Slacker Radio. He began his career in broadcasting around the turn of the century, programming music and DJing for radio stations in Philadelphia, Sacramento, and Los Angeles.
As a rabid jazz fan, he knows there aren't many places on the airwaves for this glorious, forward-thinking music, so he welcomes the challenge of bringing it to Slacker radio. Many see (or hear) jazz as something "classic" and traditional, but it's still a vital, evolving, and… well, "contemporary" genre waiting for open-minded listeners like you. If you love adventurous solos, moody compositions, spacious soundscapes, modern hardbop, heady interplay, and the spirit of discovery -- or if you just want to know what the cool kids are listening to -- Kellen hopes you'll find a new home at the Contemporary Jazz station.
