does this exist, or am i stuck waiting

with the G2 largely being outed as an unreliable, non-robust "early-adopter" type piece of hardware that became obsolete before it could get its bugs out . . . . . . . . . . . . what is there to take its actual place ??

i do not want, nor need a blackberry or supersmart X-series.

i do NEED caching ability.

satellite radio is in the tank, and ipods are still boring old ipods - how come nobody has stepped up with a slacker product that is simple, reliable, caches music, isn't loaded up with extraeneous "features", to compete with ( and do very well against ) something like an ipod nano ?? there is the target, somebody hit it for god's sake !!!!

i will not buy a g2 as it is obviously 3rd rate glitchy harware. i do not want ten zillion features. i want an ipod nano that works like slacker. judging by the sales of nano's, ten billion other people do too. where is it ???? !!! ????

I have been considering buying a used Blackberry. I already have a G1 and a G2, but considering that some of the Blackberries also have wifi and a web browser in them, I think buying a used Blackberry for Slacker (and other features) might be the work around for right now.

Really, is that "obvious"? My wife uses her G2 day in and out and has 0 problems with it. In fact I just added Slacker Plus, which I would not have done if it was having problems. When the time comes, I will probably upgrade my G1 to a G2. I am also considering getting my mom a G2 for Christmas this year, dis-continuation and all. My biggest legit worry would be the headphone jack issue (the wife's has been fine), but I'm a whiz with a soldering iron and small electronics repair so that isn't really an issue.

You are probably going to find some "glitchy-ness" in just about anything Slacker puts out, software or hardware. My buddy was raving about Slacker on android until he discovered his Bluetooth connection isn't working right with it. The Sony Walkman with Slacker has more problems than the G1 or G2 ever had. Right now, a G2 does what you are looking for and probably better than you think it does. Users don't usually come to forums when things are working great, they post when there are issues - that makes things look unbalanced imo.

Too true Sphere. Basing opinions on what is read in forums will ALWAYS come up negative. The 99% of people that aren't having problems with their G2 aren't on here complaining. I've never had a single issue with mine. Sure I could complain all day long about how syncing via USB is a pain in the *, but why? Syncing via wifi is so painless. Others with oddball routers are on here complaining that they can't get their G2 to sync via wifi. I recommend spending more than $30 on a wireless router next time.

Honestly, the only real problem the G2 has is the headphone jack. I haven't had an issue with mine yet, but when the time comes I'll pop that puppy open and solder as needed. This is something Slacker could have addressed in further generations, but they are playing it smart and getting out of the hardware game.

Ebay or Craigslist comes to mind. Depending on where you live, there may be stores that carry used phones locally.
