Curve 8310: Login Failed

Postby StixnStones on Thu Jan 08, 2009 5:41 am

So I have a BlackBerry Curve 8310 (AT&T) with OS 4.5. Slacker app installed just fine, but cannot login. Checked that my Slacker credentials still work at web player, but when I try on the BB I get an error message: Login Failed. A connection with the server could not be established.

Internet connectivity works (no problem browsing to web sites). Even tried hard restart (yanked the battery & replaced). Still no login.

Server overload? Or something else?

Yup, I'm having the same problem. I even tried creating a different account incase I was just out of my mind driving in, OR the mobile app needed a different account...

And I have a 8330 (Sprint)

I would uninstall and reinstall. I just tried it on our 8330 and had no problems signing in. It's possible maybe the app didn't install all the way on your phone properly?

So I have the same issue and it sucks because I have waited for this for some time.

I have tried:
Checking permissions - All allow
Uninstall reinstall - no luck
Online chat guys - no help there

Are you guys on a company BES? Blackberry Enterprise Server

I had another guy next to me with the same phone try it and it worked. The only difference is he is not on the BES. All my other 3rd party apps work though.....

Come on Slacker team! Get us hooked up!!!!

If you are on a BES then you need to check with them to make sure they aren't blocking you. We are on a BES here, and our system guys made sure to not block the slacker application.

It's just like IT departments that setup security profiles that don't let people surf certain websites.

We are not reserticted on our BES. The only IT policy set for us is to lock the device with a password after 30 minutes.

Is this something your engineers can look into?

So, BES is probably the problem, but there is one more thing we can look at.

Please go into your Options, then Advanced Options, and then TCP and tell me what is listed there.

I'm not on a BES with mine and have had no problems. It's possible that on a BES, the server admins could be blocking certain network/internet activity to prevent excessive data usage, or preventing certain 3rd party apps from being able to connect to the internet.

That's part of what has made Blackberry so popular in the business world... the amount of control they allow over security and usage of their devices.

I have the same problem with an 8330 from Verizon, on BES but have not had any issues with blocking in the past with flycast etc. I also tried to register a new account and got a 'registration error' message.

I don't have a TCP option in my advanced settings menu. Is there another option to check?

I just checked my 8330 and I have a TCP option. Please check again. It's under Options > Advanced Options > TCP (at the bottom, last option).

A Verizon Blackberry won't have the TCP option, as this is only for the GSM/EDGE/HSPA Blackberry models on AT&T and T-Mobile that require an access point name (APN), username, and password to gain internet access.

The CDMA models on Sprint, Verizon, and Alltel won't (shouldn't) have the TCP option.

I have the same problem. I'm using 8330 (4.5.0.77) on Verizon and BES. I also do not have the TCP setting in Advanced options.

Same here. I do not have a "tcp" setting either.

Are you running 4.3 or 4.5 os? I am running 4.5.

Maybe there's a larger problem here... If most of the folks with problems are on Verizon, could it be a carrier issue? It seems odd to me that you can download and install the app, but it fails to connect... Permissions would be the next thing I'd say to check, to make sure it's allowed to use your data connection.

So, is this with creating an account (Can you create one if you go to http://www.slacker.com with a computer), or Logging in?

Thanks,

The default permissions when you download the app are all set to allow. That was the first thing I checked.

It is something slacker probably has to play with on the back end.

I had another coworker that was not on BES try it and it worked fine. We both work for Verizon.

Our login credentials both work on the PC.

Just issues with the Curve with Verizon on BES.
