I wanted to like Club/Dance hits but I am not digging it after listening for over a week. I guess I miss BPM A LOT when I used to have XM and the station doesn't come close. It doesn't have that "oomph" you could say and I find it without depth or fun that BPM had. I actually removed it and added the excellent Trance station. Please consider reprogramming the Club hits station!!! I would love to add it back if it was changed a bit. I'm not sure how anyone else feels.

I thought maybe it was just me. I guess I don't know enough of what the specific mix of material was, but I really enjoyed BPM and can't find that mix on any of the programmed Slacker stations. Would really love to hear something more closely aligned with what BPM is/was. But hey, I'm just a Slacker noob and can't quite let go of a few of my XM security blankets!!

I think XM used a lot of various talented artist and gave them shows and this gave BPM a unique flavor, you just aren't going to get that on Slacker.

This is the big advantage that sat radio has is all these specials and various other artist based programs that simply aren't available.

It is the same with the country stations. Country Dan on XM had some really cool programs and those can't be replicated.

I wish Slacker would hire Country Dan and let him program one of the Country Channels and use him as a DJ on the channel too. It would be so cool!

I'm also getting the same stuff repeating so wonder how many songs are on the "Club Hits" channel. Maybe I've favored too many of them, but it feels like there's only a dozen or so. What's the point of that??? (I wonder how to tell how many songs have been downloaded under each channel - I've only had this thing for a week)

I am waiting for my G1 to arrive in the mail and I am so excited. My XM subscription will be over this month (after 6 years) and it is bittersweet.
I too will miss BPM, especially the BPM of old. The days of Maxwell House and Alan Freed. I am hoping that this channel will get there and replace that void! I tried to make a dance channel on my own like BPM using these artists and I wasn't able to add many :/ even artists who has had major dance hits. Hey there --

Thanks for the feedback everybody. Honestly I think you guys just clicked on the wrong channel! :) I was a fan of BPM myself so I totally get what you're looking for.

"Club Hits" is meant to be a more mainstream channel, like for the partygoer who's into the beats but isn't necessarily a hardcore music-head.

In my opinion, most of the stuff you'd hear on BPM would be categorized as "Trance" even if a lot of it was the more vocal side of that genre. So I'd suggest checking out our Trance channel. It's not exactly the same as BPM -- It's got some of the big rave classics (which BPM didn't really do) and also we try to push the envelope a little bit with some edgy new harder and progressive stuff. But the core playlist of new music is very similar to BPM or Energy-style stations, minus the pop remixes. But with just a quick glance, I see that about half of the Top 10 in the 2008 chart you've listed is in rotation on Trance. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Without a doubt I love the Trance channel... It is great compared to current BPM, and is my most listened to channel on slacker. I just miss the BPM of years past :/

I hear ya! I think that for better or for worse, you'll have to approximate the old BPM by clicking from Trance over to Club Hits, like, 30% of the time. :) We want to keep Trance solidly in that genre, and then feel like Club Hits should serve a wider audience of dance music fans. However, maybe down the line, if enough people seem to be interested in a "hybrid" channel, we can look into that. We're Slacker dammit we can do anything!!!

Since I am still an XM subscriber, and now have this Slacker G1, I'll throw my 2 cents into the forum.

BPM tends to play no song that is longer than 4 minutes, they are almost all radio edits, personally I prefer this as I want to get to that hook right away, and don't need 3 minutes of beats to get there.

BPM also does their own edits, I'm not sure what Slacker does, but it looks like they play full tracks (I haven't listened too long yet so I might be incorrect)

You're right, for new music, Trance has mostly full extended or club-length mixes in rotation. With some classics and radio hits we have single-length edits.

While I totally understand your desire to get to the hook ASAP, we felt that Slacker's "skip" feature gave us an opportunity to offer full-length mixes of new tracks, something that differentiates us from traditional radio or satellite. Making our own "medium-length" edits is definitely something we would like to do in the future, though.

I haven't had the chance to listen to the BPM station but from the play list that has been posted on here I get an idea of what was being played. Quite a few tracks on those lists are currently on Club Hits.
In the next month Club Hits will be dropping a lot of house and picking up more progressive and electro-house.
I'll start a thread in the next couple days for everyone to post their favorite tracks!

As far as radio edits go I have gone back and forth on that one. Like Ben said you have the skip option. At times I feel the radio edits miss out on the nice builds that bring you to those hooks. I'll keep it in mind.

Since I am still an XM subscriber, and now have this Slacker G1, I'll throw my 2 cents into the forum.

BPM tends to play no song that is longer than 4 minutes, they are almost all radio edits, personally I prefer this as I want to get to that hook right away, and don't need 3 minutes of beats to get there.

BPM also does their own edits, I'm not sure what Slacker does, but it looks like they play full tracks (I haven't listened too long yet so I might be incorrect)

I have to agree, that is EXACTLY what I was looking for as well. I prefer radio edits, and it's something I would expect on a hits channel. I hate what they've done with BPM and why I am looking into Slacker to replace my subscription. Here are some of the songs I like that BPM plays.

Party Ben, I agree with the previous two people! I too loved that BPM had Radio Edits. I know I could listen to the other dance stations if I wanted to hear LONGER versions because I love hearing a song the way it was intended when I was in the mood. On the OTHER HAND..Listening to BPM before they got screwed was great because they played mostly all the club hits, remixes, but they were either a bit shorter or a lot shorter which I liked most of the time! They played a nice mixture of new and older Dance songs. They were like a Top 40 Station but for Dance Listeners. Your Club hits station is NOT geared for that I see. Perhaps there needs to be a Club/Dance station that plays the deeper cuts along with full length versions and a Dance Hits station that IS like a Dance top 40 station?

Hey everybody -- thanks for the suggestions! I totally get the appeal of having more radio edits, but at the same time, I think the genre stations should also feature full-length versions. For instance, I'm thinking, tracks like Eric Prydz' "Pjanoo" and Arnej's "They Always Come Back," these are 6+ minutes long, but they just seem "right," they deserve to be heard in full-length verions.

Here's how I'd envision it:

Trance will feature a mixture of full-length tracks and radio/single edits.

Club Hits incorporates the "higlights" from Trance, the biggest hits, in radio edit form (as well as all the other stuff Adam does so well over there).

Dance/Pop continues to be Top 40 and remixes.

That way the hardcore trance fans who want to hear the full tracks have their station, people who want a fast-paced station with a taste of all the big club hits have their station, and dance/pop is there for the kids. :) Everybody happy?

For better or for worse, a station like BPM, with its guest mixes and live dj sets as well as hosts and charts and stuff, is something Slacker doesn't do. We just try to offer the best possible selection of music, which I think is kind of refreshing.

Hey Candy,

I program Club Hits and yes you will be seeing a slow change in the next month or two. Less house music (migs, chuck love etc...) and more progressive / trance / electro house.
You guys made some valid points as far as the radio edits. I'm going to look into switching a few tracks to radio edits. That should speed the flow of the station up a bit and keep you from loosing one of your skips because you don't want to hear a one minute outro.
