Can I stream DI.FM using Slacker?

Postby vigvigler on Fri Nov 06, 2009 11:29 am

Ok, I just got back from the Verizon store. I was checking out the Droid... I popped open the browser and went to DI.FM.

http://www.di.fm

I tried all 3 public streams (MP3, Windows Media, AACPlus), and nothing. I asked the data tech guys at the counter and they said there might or will eventually probably be a app that will work with DI.FM.

So I'm researching Apps before I buy the phone. Anyone gotten DI.FM working on Slacker? I'm especially interested to see if I can get the premium subscriber channels to work. The phone is pretty * sweet and right now the only thing holding me back is the fact I can't stream my favorite internet radio station.

According to the specs of the Droid, it supports AACPlus streams. This is big!!! Currently it's next to impossible to stream AACplus encrypted streams on windows mobile.

Slacker streams music files that originate from Slacker's servers. Slacker does not stream other live internet radio services.

For kicks and giggles, I visited the Market on my Sprint Hero. I found a package called "A Online Radio", and I was able to add the AACPlus stream to it (I did the first one -- Disco House), and have it play. The interface on this application sucks, but it exists. There were several others that showed up in the list (some free, some for-pay), so you'll have to experiment. www.di.fm also appears to support MP3 streams, so if you listened to those, you should be fine.

My biggest gripe with "A Online Radio"? There seems to be no way to exit the app, and it's not showing up in Task Manager. *terrible* I'm uninstalling it now.. hehe

Thanks! I went out and grabbed the phone today. I went and grabbed the app you mentioned, which the tech for Verizon, also recommended. This worked for me and the free streams. When I log in to DI.fm. It does not work. Oh well, I'm one step closer. Thanks for the info though. Now to search around for an app that does what I need.

I believe this is due to the fact that the streams the premium channels use are "encoded" streams, which obviously this program does not support, but, I'm headed to this apps homepage to find out just that.
